Below is everything you need to know about the Invisalign treatment process:
Before beginning treatment, our dentist must first determine if Invisalign is the best solution for your needs. This is done during a consultation at our Springfield, Illinois, office. Our dentist will carefully examine your teeth and the degree of misalignment. If you are not a good candidate for Invisalign, our dentist may recommend braces or another alternative solution to help you achieve your desired results.
Custom Treatment Plan
Once you are approved for Invisalign, our dentist will develop a custom treatment plan. Using a 3D digital scanner, our dentist will take virtual impressions of your teeth. These impressions are used to outline the progression of your treatment as well as to develop your custom-made Invisalign aligners.
After all your Invisalign aligners have been created, you'll return to our office to pick them up and learn how to properly care for them throughout the course of your treatment. The aligners are composed of a non-toxic plastic and are custom-made to fit comfortably and securely over your teeth. You'll wear the aligners for a minimum of 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat and brush and floss your teeth.
Unlike metal braces, which require frequent visits to the orthodontist for adjustments, you'll return to office only periodically for quick checkups. These appointments allow our dentist to monitor your progress and provide you with the next sets of aligners in your treatment plan. These appointments are typically scheduled four to six weeks apart depending on your custom treatment plan.
Invisalign treatment can take 9 to 12 months or more depending on your individual needs, but that's considerably shorter than treatment times with conventional braces. Once your treatment is complete, you'll probably need to wear a retainer to ensure your results last long term. The retainer closely resembles the aligners and is typically worn at night.
Because Invisalign is frequently considered a cosmetic dentistry procedure, it's rarely covered in full by insurance. As such, our office offers several flexible payment options to cover any remaining balance. In addition to cash, check and credit cards, we also offer CareCredit.
